# What is HID-ScaleWedge?

> HID-ScaleWedge reads weights from USB-HID postage and shipping scales and types them into your shipping software, web browser, or spreadsheet.

HID-ScaleWedge is a specialized utility built specifically for capturing weight data from USB-HID (Human Interface Device) postage, shipping, and laboratory scales.

Unlike RS232 devices, USB-HID scales don't communicate via standard COM ports. They act more like a secondary keyboard. HID-ScaleWedge knows exactly how to listen to these devices.
